Research Assistant (f/m/d) Postdoctoral position in single-molecule fluorescence microscopy
The research activities of the AG Biophysik aim to establish a fundamental, physics-based understanding of the function of bio-macromolecular systems. In this respect proteins and (protein based) macromolecular complexes, also within in their cellular context, are of particular interest for our research topics. The experimental techniques used are confocal fluorescence spectroscopy and single molecule wide-field microscopy. Thereby fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS), simultaneous multi-color detection, and Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) are employed in our research projects. We offer the possibilities to work with state-of-the-art equipment at the interface between physics and molecular biology in a highly motivated group and an international and interdisciplinary working environment at the RWTH Aachen University and at the Forschungszentrum Jülich.
o A higher Degree (PhD) in Physics, Chemistry or Biochemistry and a Doctorate in a related field o Extensive knowledge of high resolution fluorescence microscopy and spectroscopy
o Comprehensive experience in conducting research projects in structural biology by using fluorescence based single molecule techniques.
o The ability to communicate and work effectively in an interdisciplinary an international team
o A structured and systematic approach to problem solving
Your Duties and Responsibilities
We are looking for an excellent and highly motivated postdoc candidate for a DFG funded research project «Cotranslational mechanisms of protein folding studied on the single molecule level» which will be conducted in a close collaboration with the Institut für biologische Informationsprozesse IBI-6 at the Forschungszentrum Jülich. You will be part of a team using state-of-the-art equipment (TIRF microscope for simultaneous dual color imaging, confocal microscope with pulsed excitation and multi-channel detection) which investigates structural and dynamical properties of proteins and protein complexes. This includes to application of nano-apertures like zero mode waveguides (ZMWs) to study protein ligand interactions at physiological relevant concentrations on single molecule level. The results of your research are expected to be published in international peer reviewed journals.
