Tenure Track Professorship in Experimental Molecular Biophysics salary grade: initially W 2, 5 years; after evaluation W 2 with tenure reference code: TT-Biophys

The successful applicant will cover Experimental Molecular Biophysics in research and teaching.
Appointment requirements are governed by Article 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetz - BerlHG).

The successful candidate is required to have a distinguished record of preferably international research activities in the field of experimental molecular biophysics. We are looking for someone experienced in the development of experimental methods, e.g. for analyzing the structure and function of proteins. Applicants will have experience in university teaching of physics at the Bachelor and Master level, preferably in an international environment. Additionally, she or he is expected to have experience in acquiring and leading externally funded research projects.

Apart from the official duties in accordance with Article 99 of the Berlin Higher Education Act, we expect the appointee to engage in the following activities:
She or he is expected to independently manage a group working on issues of experimental molecular biophysics. The appointee should participate in the joint projects of Freie Universität Berlin (e.g. Focus Area Nanoscale, SfB 1078 “Protonation Dynamics in Protein Function”) and in the Berlin research environment.

Teaching and research will include aspects of gender and diversity approaches. If necessary, the appointee is expected to acquire missing German language skills.
The professor will be appointed as a civil servant for an initial period of five years.

Under the condition that the appointee passes the tenure evaluation, upon its expiry the tenure track professorship entails appointment to the tenured position which will not be advertised. Objectives for this evaluation will be negotiated during the appointment procedure for the tenure track professorship (according to Article 102 c BerlHG).

The objectives to be agreed upon will include (but are not limited to) the following areas:
• Research
• Teaching
• Support of junior scholars
• Academic self-governance
• Personnel leadership
• Language proficiency

The conditions of employment according to civil service law must be fulfilled at the time of the tenure appointment.
Please note that Article 102 c, Sections 3 and 7 of the BerlHG applies for candidates that completed their PhD at Freie Universität Berlin and/or are employed at Freie Universität Berlin.
