Postdoctoral Position (m/f/d) in Experimental Bio-Spectro-Electrochemistry

The Kielb group at the Clausius Institute, University of Bonn, investigates the mechanisms of naturally evolved metalloenzymes with a focus on active-site chemistry and long-range hole hopping via aromatic residues. Our goal is to derive general principles for the rational design of biohybrid materials and to create artificial metalloproteins or electroactive biohybrid interfaces by tuning redox properties.

Our methodological approach combines electrochemical techniques with surface-enhanced resonance Raman (SERR) spectroscopy to study catalytic intermediates under electrochemical control in situ and in a time-resolved manner. We are currently extending these methods into the UV regime to enable studies of UV-absorbing chromophores such as DNA and RNA.

We seek a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher whose PhD training aligns with these research interests. The project will focus on the further development and application of SERR spectro-electrochemistry to elucidate catalytic mechanisms in bioinorganic systems.

Your profile:

• PhD in (Bio)physical chemistry or Biophysics or related field
• Strong background in optical spectroscopy (preferably surface-enhanced Raman)
• Experience with time-resolved spectroscopy and/or spectro-electrochemistry of biological molecules, ideally metalloproteins
• Fun and motivation to design new experiments
• Very good data analysis skills
